たちおくれ【立ち後れ】

being (too) late in doing; being behind [slow]; slowness.

●彼女の立候補はやや立ち後れ気味だ. She was a little tardy [late] in announcing her candidacy.

●バイオテクノロジーの領域で立ち後れが目立つ. Our slowness in the area of biotechnology is conspicuous [marked].
